BANANA FLOWER DAL SAMBHAR

Banana flower is a vegetable that is traditionally used in preparing vadai (similar to cutlets), curry, dal and sambhar. It tastes little bitter but finely cooked with right proportion of spices it tastes yummy. Hee is a recipe of banana flower dal sambhar

INGREDIENTS

Banana flower

Toor dal

Green chillies

Tamarind

Red chilli powder

salt

oil

Turmeric powder

Asafoetida

Mustard seeds

PREPARATION:

  1. Take a banana flower, pick the hard stem out and chop it finely. Soak it in salt water for few minutes

  2. Take a bowl , add toor dal, green chillies and the chopped banana flower. Pour little water sufficient enough to cook.

  3. Place it in a pressure cooker and allow it to cook for three whistles

  4. Soak tamarind and extract juice

  5. Simmer the tamarind juice in a vessel, add salt.

  6. In a kadai, pour oil add mustard seeds when it crackles add red chilli powder and finely roast it and add it to the tamarind juice.

  7. Mix well and allow it to simmer for few minutes.

  8. Then add the cooked dal and the banana flower.

  9. Add turmeric powder and asafoetida.

  10. Allow it to cook for sometime, then serve hot with rice and ghee.
